Aquatic Supervisor
Job Summary
$45,695 - $70,898 / year DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits
Performs advanced professional work overseeing aquatic operations and staff to ensure a safe and engaging environment for patrons. Serves as the primary supervisor for part-time and seasonal aquatic staff, including lifeguards and instructors and ensures compliance with all safety, health and operational standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and directly supervises work of team members, lifeguards and swim instructors, during operations including accountability for job completion, coordination of logistics and overall welfare and performance of assigned personnel.
- Schedules staff to ensure adequate coverage for daily operations, events, and programs\
- Ensures the safety and regulates conduct of pool patrons; enforces pool policies, rules and regulations; conducts swimming tests with children to allow them to swim unattended; provides customer service to patrons, including handling customer conflict and complaints, as necessary.
- Performs rescues and provides appropriate care and follow-up procedures; uses proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid; provides written reports on all accidents.
- Assists in organizing and executing in-service training and staff meetings; participates in the preparation of daily records; provides guidance to less experienced lifeguards during training.
- Provides mentorship and coaching to develop staff skills and prepare them for advancement.
- Measures water chemistry and adjust chemicals as necessary to maintain proper chemical balances of pool and whirlpool; maintains appropriate records of water quality of pool; assists in the proper maintenance and sanitary operation of the pool, pool area and locker rooms; maintains proper updated safety requirements; handles mechanical/pump room or chemical problems as directed.
- May assist Recreation/Aquatic Program Coordinator in daily aquatic managerial duties.
· Organizes and oversees operations of aquatics programing including swim lessons, water fitness, and other special events as necessary
- Develops and evaluates aquatic programs to meet community needs and promote participation.
- Develops and implements emergency action plans and conduct regular drills.
- Maintains accurate records, including incident reports, water chemistry logs, attendance data, and payroll documentation.
- Assists in budget planning and monitors expenditures related to staffing, supplies, and programs.
- Handles patron complaints and inquiries, ensuring customer satisfaction and resolving conflicts as necessary.
- Represents the aquatic facility in community outreach efforts, promoting programs and building partnerships.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to high school diploma; considerable lifeguarding experience, aquatic program coordination and staff supervision.
- Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver's license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County's criteria.
- Must obtain the following certifications within 90 days of hire:
· American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certificate
· Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
- The following Certifications are preferred:
· Aquatic Facility Operator certification (AFO)
· American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
· American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
· Certified Pool Operator's License (CPO)
- Knowledge of water rescue methods; lifeguarding and first-aid practices and techniques; swimming pool safety; principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Skill in use of computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite and the American Red Cross Learning Center as an Administrator
- Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and administrative tasks effectively.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
