Each day can be unpredictable. Sometimes, being able juggle the multiple hats we wear is the challenge. Understanding the resources available to you and using them to the best of your ability is key to being able to manage the day, rather than having the day manage you.

About Jessa G.

Key experience
I started out in hospitality and made the move to public sector as an administrative coordinator for the HR Department with James City County. During my time I've had the opportunity to be promoted twice and be involved in all aspects of HR including recruitment, benefits, HRIS, and employee relations.
Current position
I have a hand in a lot of the day--to-day processes that impact payroll. This includes ensuring all new hires, pay changes, and benefits update being entered into the HR system. I work closely with IT to update and ensure all our systems are running smoothly. I also consult with department leaders and employees to help navigate through their day-to-day questions and to come up with solutions.
Main motivation

One of my favorite compliments I was ever given was that people like to reach out to me with questions because no matter how crazy or off the wall the question or idea might be, I approach it without judgement. Each of us has our niche, and being able to embrace and encourage others to brainstorm ideas or talk through a concept is a fun way to connect and learn. I'm always impressed by the creativity and courage that others display with their ideas and am humbled by some of the experiences that people approach me with. While I may not interact directly with the public, I'm proud to be able to make a positive impact towards those who do.

Greatest achievement

All organizations have been challenged with staying on top of the rapidly changing times. Through my years with the County I've been able to work side-by-side or help lead projects to make a stronger work environment. As systems and processes become outdated I've been able to work with different leaders within the organization to update workflows and processes that no longer make sense while helping to coach and guide newer employees to gain the confidence and ability to excel in their roles.
