Job Summary

$104,024 - $164,222/ year or higher DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits 

Performs advanced work overseeing daily operations of library public service divisions and acts as a member of the library’s management team, and supervising major library divisions.

Responsibilities:

• Provides effective supervision of assigned staff including selection, performance management, scheduling, employee relations, training, prioritizing and assigning work, and related activities.
• Supervises and evaluates library division directors as required by library organization chart.
• Assists director and finance director in preparing the annual library budget.
• Keeps abreast of advances in technology and plans for applications to improve and enhance library public services; prepares monthly, statistical, and special reports; collects and analyzes pertinent data.
• Improves the quality of library public services through individual and general staff development by attending relevant meetings, workshops and training sessions and visiting other sites.
• Participates in library-wide planning and decision-making as a member of the library management team.
• Performs duties of director in director’s absence or at director’s discretion, including public relations, personnel, and budget duties.
• Represents the library on behalf of the director and works with community groups and representatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Masters of Library Science degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited library school required; considerable public library and supervisory experience in a relevant field.
• Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of library services and personnel management; principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Skill in the use of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to plan, organize and administer a library division; serve the public with friendliness, tact and diplomacy; work well under pressure; delegate work effectively; set own priorities for work to be done and meet deadlines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, vendors, technicians, government officials and staff, and the general public; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Risk Management Coordinator performs responsible work managing safety and health programs while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and County occupational health and safety regulations for James City County (JCC); investigates and studies risks to which JCC, and the Williamsburg James City County (WJCC) Schools may be exposed and determines potential sources of loss and methods of avoiding or mitigating their effects while working with departments to ensure proper controls are in place. Performs responsible work in investigating personal injury, property loss, damage, and related claims against JCC, and WJCC Schools.
