James City County Human Resource Department is seeking an individual to join our team as a Benefits Specialist. The successful candidate will focus on the day-to-day operations of comprehensive benefits administration activities for the County.

There are 3 levels of Human Resource Specialist distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.

Human Resource Specialist I: $58,095 / year or higher DOQ
Human Resource Specialist II: $62,200 / year or higher DOQ
Human Resource Specialist III: $66,613 / year or higher DOQ

In This Role, You'll:

  • Administer Benefits: Oversee day-to-day operations, including processing benefits, handling FMLA, and coordinating with Worker’s Compensation. Serve as back up managing retirement plans and ADA administration.
  • Guide and Support: Provide expert consultation to employees and managers on benefits, policies, and compliance, ensuring the best practices and legal requirements are met.
  • Enhance Communication: Assist with managing benefits-related information on the County’ website and Employee Portal, and the annual Open Enrollment process with clear, timely updates.
  • Drive Improvement: Stay current on HR trends and legislation, recommending policy updates and best practices to keep our benefits programs top-notch.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in Human Resource Management or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience in benefits administration and interpreting labor laws.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The ability to maintain complex records, resolve issues efficiently, and provide exceptional customer service.
