$58,095 - $104,429 / year DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits 

James City County Human Resource Department is seeking an individual to join our team as a Benefits Specialist. The successful candidate will focus on the day-to-day operations of comprehensive benefits administration, FMLA and Short-Term Disability for the County.

There are 3 levels of Human Resource Specialist distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.

Human Resource Specialist I: $58,095 - $90,804 / year DOQ
Human Resource Specialist II: $62,200 - $97,371 / year DOQ
Human Resource Specialist III: $66,613 - $104,429 / year DOQ

In This Role, You'll:

• Administer Benefits: Oversee day-to-day operations of the County’s health, dental and vision benefits, FMLA, Short-Term Disability and coordinating with Worker’s Compensation. Serve as back up managing retirement plans and ADA administration.
• Guide and Support: Provide expert consultation to employees and managers about benefits offered, policies, and compliance, ensuring the best practices and legal requirements are met.
• Enhance Communication: Assist with managing benefits-related information on the County’ website & Employee Portal, annual Open Enrollment and semi-monthly new employees benefits orientation.
• Drive Improvement: Stay current on HR trends and legislation, recommending policy updates and best practices to keep our benefits programs top-notch.

What We’re Looking For:

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in Human Resource Management or related field; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience in benefits administration and interpreting labor laws.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• The ability to maintain complex records, resolve issues efficiently, and provide exceptional customer service.
