Job Summary
$76,453 - $120,175 / year + Full-Time County Benefits.
Performs advanced work overseeing all Circulation Services Division operations and staff; planning and monitoring the division’s activities using Williamsburg Regional Library’s current Strategic Plan as a framework; and participating in the planning and evaluation of collections programs, services and goals for the entire library.
Responsibilities
- Provides effective supervision of assigned staff including selection, performance management, employee relations, training, prioritizing and assigning work and related activities.
- Develops, interprets, implements and evaluates all division procedures; models and implements library customer service goals; implements and interprets library policies.
- Provides public service from check-out and other public service desks; resolves user complaints and appeals.
- Works closely with Library Systems Administrator to ensure the integrated library system effectively supports library and division goals, services and procedures; collaborates with and supports Outreach Services Division on circulation matters and initiatives; collaborates with and supports other division directors/managers/officers.
- Maintains an awareness of current trends and technologies related to library circulation services; improves the quality of library services through individual and general staff development.
- Prepares budget requests, monthly and other special reports including statistical and data information; prepares and implements plans for the circulation services division.
- Participates in library-wide planning and decision-making; serves on and/or chair library committees; participates as appropriate in local, state, and national library associations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school; considerable experience in responsible management and supervising in a relevant field; considerable experience in and commitment to public service; library experience preferred; knowledge and experience with current and emerging trends and technologies related to circulation services preferred.
- Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
- Knowledge of an integrated library system’s circulation function or its equivalent; principles, practices, and techniques of management and supervision.
- Skill in use computer software including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to plan, organize and administer a library division; develop a thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of library circulation services; learn and use the integrated library system at an expert level; establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Library Director and Assistant Library Director, division directors/managers/officers, staff members, government officials and personnel, vendors and the general public; work well under pressure, paying close attention to detail; effectively delegate work; set own priorities for work to be done and to meet deadlines; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using Sirsi Dynix integrated library system including Horizon, Enterprise, self-checkout systems and RFID.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and lead large teams including mixtures of full-time, part-time, on-call, and seasonal staff.
- Experience with unique collection items including library of things, technology, and non-traditional collections.
- Experience with various scheduling models for large teams made up of both full-time and part-time staff.
- Experience with troubleshooting self-service payment and checkout kiosk stations including communicating with vendors.
- Volunteer coordinator experience including adapting volunteer duties to changes in the division.
- Skill in using computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Teams including shifts for scheduling.
