We are seeking motivated, detail-oriented college students to join our team as Civil Engineer Interns. This paid internship provides valuable exposure to development plans associated with the County’s Erosion and Stormwater Management Ordinance and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Ordinance. It also offers opportunities to learn about stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and much more.
The Stormwater division operates Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm. Internship runs from June 16th, 2026 to August 14th, 2026

Responsibilities
• Assists Engineers and Watershed Planners with final as-built documentation, including incorporation of stormwater conveyance systems and Best Management Practices (BMPs) into the County’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
• Observes the reviews of construction plans and computations associated with drainage, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management systems.
• Learns to communicate with various stakeholders on plan development reviews; assist with the preparation of technical reports and letters to developers, engineers, and the community regarding issues.
• Assists with special assignments assigned by the Chief Civil Engineer and Resource Protection Section Chief; gains hands-on exposure by attending and observing Development Round Table and other key meetings within the division.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Must be a rising or current college junior or senior studying a related engineering field.
• Some knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, water resources, watershed modeling, GIS, erosion and sediment control, floodplain, stormwater management, and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area program requirements.
• Some knowledge of utilizing ArcPro, modeling software (Pond Pack), and Adobe/Bluebeam.
• Ability to utilize computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to perform basic project/case management; use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations; listen and understand directions, information, and ideas presented verbally or in writing.
