$16.89 - $25.94 / hour DOQ
**This is a temporary position depending on department budget**
Performs responsible work in the operation of a James City County truck on an assigned route for the General Services Department.
Responsibilities
• Operates a recycling pickup truck with precision and care.
• Clean, sort, and load various-sized carts into the recycling truck.
• Change out damaged carts.
• Deliver carts to residents requesting service and remove carts from residents cancelling service.
• May be required to unload collected material into appropriate containers or areas at the Jolly Pond Convenience Center.
• Provide assistance and materials about recycling to the general public as needed.
• Maintain and clean pickup truck daily while also ensuring proper and safe operation of all collection equipment.
• Exhibit a professional demeanor and appearance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and some experience with recycling.
• Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of a pickup truck or similar automotive equipment; traffic laws and regulations applicable to equipment operation; hazards of equipment operation and of appropriate safety precautions; some
knowledge of the geography of the County; knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and to adhere to time schedules; deal with the public courteously and tactfully; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
