Job Summary
$18.00 - $36.00 / hour DOQ; On-Call positions available (up to 28 hours / week). James City County’s Parks and Recreation Department seeks an individual to conduct swim lessons for patrons of all ages.
Responsibilities
• Works under the supervision of Aquatics Operations Manager
• Responsible for conducting a quality learning experience for all patrons, assuring their safety while maintaining a professional relationship with patrons.
• Instructs all levels of the Learn to Swim Program (Children and Adults) to the American Red Cross Standard.
• Instructors should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and motivate others, provide consistent encouragement and support, and foster a positive learning environment.
• Must attend staff training and meetings.
• Help swimmers to overcome potential challenges such as their fear of moving water or difficulty getting out of the water.
• All attendance and evaluations/course records are completed and turned in at the end of each session.
Qualifications:
• Water Safety Instructor Certified (American Red Cross)
• Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certified (Preferred)
• Enjoy working with patrons of all ages and educating them in water safety.
• Must be comfortable working/leading a lesson by yourself or with a small team.
• Must be comfortable with creating and implementing swim lessons to the American Red Cross Standards.
• Knowledgeable in water safety; teaching/leading swim lessons; swimming pool safety; principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Must be able to communicate well via both orally and in writing.
• Must bring a high level of maturity, professionalism, and adaptability to unforeseen situations.
