Job Summary
$30/hour, temporary position
Performs experienced professional work coordinating and delivering crime prevention and community services programs and Police Department training.
Responsibilities
• Provides comprehensive crime prevention and community services to citizens, residents, and businesses in James City County.
• Attends, coordinates, and delivers neighborhood and community programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Citizens Police Academy, Citizens Forensic Academy, and others.
• Services and coordinates services for Project Lifesaver clients.
• Conducts home and business security surveys, lighting surveys, reviews building plans, provides input on community and business development.
• Assesses Police Department employee performance and training and development needs; provides or coordinates training, evaluates training effectiveness; participates in and develops initiatives to promote employee engagement.
• Provides training and coaching to Police Department staff, facilitates team development activities. Coordinates training classes, to include required in-service hours. Reports on in-service and instructorship recertification to DCJS and HRCJTA.
• Coordinates with regional and state law enforcement partners to develop training resources for the County; leads regular meetings to develop training opportunities.
• Designs, implements, or procures training programs to achieve organizational goals, reinforce culture and facilitate change to include E-Learning initiatives.
• Keeps up-to-date on current trends and legislation in the criminal justice field; recommends changes to policies, procedures, and practices to reflect best management practices and comply with current laws and regulations.
• Performs as subject matter expert in criminal justice and law enforcement matters.
• Prepares, documents, maintains, and reports on training & community engagement activities.
Qualifications:
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or other law enforcement related field;
• Must possess reliable transportation to work site(s).
• Considerable professional law enforcement, training, and/or program management work experience; considerable experience as a professional adult educator that including crime prevention and community services or developing lesson plans conducting needs assessments, training development and delivery, training effectiveness evaluation and contracting for third party delivered training and development activities.
• Knowledge of applicable law enforcement and criminal justice best practices, budget development and monitoring; and, principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Skill in use of computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to develop, implement and administer effective community and Department training programs; assess, analyze, and creatively resolve training related issues; work effectively as a committee facilitator, team member, and with all stakeholders; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; initiate, develop, and effectively manage a wide range of policies, program and functions; work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees, and the public.
