Job Summary

$58,096 / year or higher DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits 

Performs responsible work directing, shooting, and editing short and long form videos for County cable, live public meetings and website.

Responsibilities

Produces, directs, shoots, and edits videos to highlight County events, government operations, people, history and programs; controls artistic and creative aspects including scripting, location selection, equipment selection and scheduling. Focus is on long & short informational videos and instructional videos.

Edits video productions using modern software and systems; creates or oversees the creation of graphics to enhance production quality; exports or converts video files to various file formats for editing and viewing.

Assist the Broadcast Technician with the maintenance and monitoring of the County YouTube channel; provides departments with videos for webpages.

Acts as back up for live broadcasts of County meetings by operating video cameras, switcher and graphics including full set up, broadcast monitoring, and break down of meetings; acts as back up for Public, Educational and Government (PEG) channel management, including programming, scheduling and graphic bulletin board creation.

Assists Video Production Administrator with troubleshooting technical issues and upgrading equipment in support of video production and broadcast. Supports Emergency Management for the purpose of areal video to assess damage and support emergency communications to citizens.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or video production, or a closely related field; and, considerable experience in a video production environment.

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County’s criteria.

Must possess, or obtain FAA Drone Pilot Certification within 12 months of hire.

Knowledge of and experience in digital video editing software packages including Avid Media Composer and Adobe Creative Suite products; experience in the use of Microsoft Office Suite software.

Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently, meet deadlines, and work with diverse groups of people inside and outside the County organization; take complicated information and tell a cohesive, visual and compelling story; incorporate high production values and industry standards; work collaboratively and be open to feedback.
