What we’re looking for

We are seeking an experienced automotive technician who can come in at a level II/III with over 5 years of experience. The ideal candidate will have experience working on medium/heavy duty trucks with an interest in working on fire apparatuses. Must possess or be willing to work towards Master ASE certification in Automobile or Light, Medium Heavy Truck and level I EVT certification. Experience working on fire trucks is a plus. You would be working on a variety of vehicles that includes anything from mowers, excavators, police vehicles, ambulances and fire apparatuses.

Qualifications:

• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma; supplemented by courses in auto mechanics, engine repair or related field; considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive and related equipment.
• Must be eligible to obtain Virginia Class A Commercial Driver’s permit within 30 days of hire and the license with combination endorsements: airbrakes and tanker within 6 months of hire and have an acceptable driving record based on James City County’s criteria.
• Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a valid Virginia State Inspector’s License.
• Must possess or obtain within 6 months of hire a valid air-conditioning recovery certification.
• Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service including setting and meeting quality standards for service, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and the public.
• Provides own hand tools.

There are two levels of Automotive Technician distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.

Automotive Technician II: $58,095-$90,804/year DOQ
Automotive Technician III: $62,200-$97,371/year DOQ
