Job Summary
$45,695 - $93,529 year DOQ + Full-Time County Benefits
Performs experienced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) work, including installation, servicing, and maintenance of commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems in all County facilities.
There are three levels of HVAC Facilities Technician I/II/III as distinguished by the level of work performed and the qualifications of the employee.
HVAC Facilities Technician I: $45,695 - $70,898/year DOQ
HVAC Facilities Technician II: $55,910 - $87,242/year DOQ
HVAC Facilities Technician III: $59,838 - $93,529/year DOQ
Responsibilities
• Installs, services, and maintains commercial rooftop HVAC units, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, split systems, unit heaters, water source equipment, exhaust fans and water heaters.
• Installs services and maintains refrigeration equipment including ice machines and water fountains.
• Assures that Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems for buildings are programmed and operating at an energy efficient level.
• Balances air and water systems with highly technical balancing equipment.
• Tests equipment and performs maintenance necessary to ensure testing and maintenance are operating as engineered.
• This job is considered essential personnel and will be required to work during and following natural disasters and emergencies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
• Must possess, or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver’s license with an acceptable driving record based on James City County criteria.
• Knowledge of DDC, especially Trane Controls; federal and state safety procedures and standards for heating and air conditioning repair and maintenance; proper procedures, methods, techniques, and equipment for the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems; and principles and processes for providing customer service, including setting and meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
• Skill in use of computer software, especially Microsoft Office Suite, and the safe and effective use of hand and power tools and other equipment of the mechanical trade.
• Ability to organize, plan, and implement a maintenance program for HVAC and refrigeration equipment; diagnose and correct electrical power, lighting, or communication failures and diagnose problems and repair or replace a wide variety of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics; establish and maintain harmonious working relationships; deal efficiently and courteously with the public.
